Keiran Culkin had ‘no idea’ what ‘Home Alone’ was about despite being in it
Kieran Culkin was just as clueless as Fuller when he was filming Home Alone alongside brother Macaulay Culkin.
The Succession star, now 42, admitted that he had no idea what the 1990 holiday classic was even about, let alone that his older brother Macaulay — only 10 at the time — was the star of the movie.
“I had no idea what that movie was about when I saw it, and I was in it,” Culkin told the Los Angeles Times while promoting his upcoming film A Real Pain with co-star Jesse Eisenberg.
Recalling his reaction at the premiere of Home Alone, “I was dying laughing. It was the funniest thing I had ever seen, but I had no idea what the movie was about.”
Culkin’s older brother Macaulay famously played Kevin McAllister, while Kieran appeared as Kevin’s cousin, Fuller. When Eisenberg asked how he filmed the movie without understanding its storyline, Culkin explained, “Drink this Coke, wear the glasses, say the thing you memorised, look cute, and go home.”
Moreover, Culkin shared that Devin Ratray — who played Buzz — once convinced him that the movie was about his character. “I believed him!” Culkin laughed. “Then I saw it and thought, ‘Mac was on set all the time. That makes sense the movie would be about him.’”
Meanwhile, the Social Network star reminisced about seeing Home Alone in theaters 17 times as a kid. “I kind of knew the phenomenon of Kieran being the brother of the other guy,” Eisenberg joked.
