Jennifer Lopez gets candid about motherhood troubles amid divorce woes
Jennifer Lopez has multiple thoughts going through her mind.
The Atlas star has questioned whether being a single mother is beneficial to her twins, Max and Emme.
During an interview to promote her new film Unstoppable, a sports drama based on the true tale of wrestler Anthony Robles, who was born with one leg and made history by winning the 2011 NCAA National Championship, the 55-year-old pop queen discussed raising her 16-year-old twins.
In the film, the singer-songwriter plays Anthony’s mother, Judy Robles.
“I’ve been a single mother at times in my life and I’ve wondered ‘Am I enough for them?'” she told Entertainment Weekly. “And the truth is, all you need is a parent who loves you.
“You hear it in Anthony’s voice and look at what he’s been able to accomplish,” Lopez said of the wrestling champion.
Anthony’s mother, Judy Robles, commended JLo’s performance, saying she was able to convey her character the emotions she has felt as her son has grown and encountered hurdles.
“She (JLo) was really able to take on how I was feeling – the ups and downs. We long to be loved and we want to achieve what seems impossible to do, even when we see it and think ‘I have to keep pushing’, there is always a little hope,” Judy told Entertainment Weekly.
Jennifer Lopez and ex-husband Marc Anthony welcomed twins Max and Emme in 2008. The former couple married in 2004, and Anthony filed for divorce in 2012. Their marriage was eventually dissolved in 2014.
Lopez announced on The Graham Norton Show last month that she would cancel her This Is Me… Live tour in May to spend the summer with Max and Emme.
“I decided to take the summer off and be home with the kids and I think it was the best thing I’ve ever done in my life,” Lopez said on the British show.
“It’s not like me to do that and when it comes up, I like to apologise to the fans because I know where a lot of them are coming from.”
Lopez, who is going through a divorce from husband Ben Affleck, also spent the summer with Affleck’s three children: Violet, 19, Serafina, 15, and Samuel, 12, whom he shares with ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
