Post Malone, Morgan Wallen, a ‘creative relationship’ that started in ‘studio’
Post Malone and Morgan Wallen share a beautiful “creative relationship”.
The rapper’s April release, F-1 Trillion, was introduced with a bang thanks to its standout track, I Had Some Help.
The country-pop crossover featuring Morgan Wallen spent six non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 and earned two Grammy nominations.
While the collaboration felt like a natural fit, it was years in the making.
“I had worked with both of them for years leading into the collaboration, and it was something we had always wanted to do. But it just came down to timing,” said Tyler Arnold, president of Mercury Records, as per Variety.
The opportunity finally arose in 2023 when Malone and Wallen teamed up with Hardy for a Joe Diffie tribute at the Country Music Awards.
“While they didn’t write I Had Some Help on that trip, Post and Morgan started their creative relationship in the studio,” Arnold added.
The breakthrough came later that year when Malone headed to Nashville with his longtime collaborator Louis Bell.
They joined Wallen and Big Loud’s powerhouse team, including Charlie Handsome, Ernest, and Ashley Gorley.
“[I got a] text from the studio on night one saying they had just written nearly seven full songs,” recalled Seth England, CEO of Big Loud.
“After they wrote so many ideas on the first night, I knew the whole project could become exciting quickly.”
The track I Had Some Help was born during those sessions, and excitement quickly built around its potential. Arnold vividly remembered hearing it for the first time.
“We were all so excited and could feel that this one was special”, he said.
